About Niesha
She brings strong relationships with the Capitol press corps, strategic instincts honed inside the Legislature and a collaborative spirit grounded in a commitment to excellence. At LPA, she strengthens a top-tier team and leads client work on some of California’s most pressing issues, including insurance, technology, retirement systems and tourism.
As Director of Communications for the Senate President pro Tempore for six years, Niesha led internal and external communications, media strategy and public engagement. She partnered closely with the Governor’s Office, Assembly Speaker’s Office and media outlets throughout the state and country to highlight legislative priorities and secure earned media on a host of major issues including the state budget, reproductive rights, infrastructure, housing, LGBTQ+ issues and more.
Previously, she led communications for the California Faculty Association, where she oversaw organizational materials and press outreach, expanded digital engagement and led multi-platform media campaigns. Her career began at The Sacramento Bee where she spent nearly a decade reporting on crime, courts, education, agriculture and public policy issues, as well as writing lifestyle features and a parenting column that broadened the paper’s voice.
Niesha is a two-time graduate of the California State University system, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice. She has taught at CSU Sacramento, led the Pacific Media Workers Guild and contributed to Sacramento Magazine. Niesha lives on a ranch in rural Sacramento County where she raises goats, pigs, and cattle with her husband.
