About Mario
Mario Vasquez Zuniga brings nearly seven years of experience in public affairs, advocacy and digital communications to his work at Lucas Public Affairs. As LPA’s Digital Strategist, Mario leads the firm’s digital capabilities for clients and the agency.
Mario has built, managed and executed high-stakes digital and public affairs campaigns from the ground-up, and has worked closely with elected officials, presidential candidates, influencers and celebrities.
Most recently, Mario served as communications manager for the California Democratic Party. In that role, he helped build the organization’s communications infrastructure and managed communications for the party during the 2020 presidential election and the state and national conventions. He was also the digital director for Rusty Hicks’s successful campaign for California Democratic Party Chair.
Earlier, Mario worked at a global public affairs firm where he managed advocacy, non-profit and education clients. Mario was also a legislative analyst with the California Department of Insurance. He was a community organizer before joining KQED in San Francisco where he managed marketing and community engagement campaigns and produced digital content.
Mario earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communications Studies and Race and Resistance Studies at San Francisco State University. Mario is a native Spanish speaker. He resides in Sacramento and co-owns Petals Florist Shop in Palmdale, CA.
