At Lucas Public Affairs, we use our skills, expertise, experience and enthusiasm not only for our clients but to support causes near and dear to us. Each year, our team donates time, talent and resources to a wide variety of organizations working to bring about positive change in our community and beyond. Following is a snapshot of non-profits and foundations we are proud to support.

Organizations We Support

Best Buddies International

Best Buddies International is dedicated to creating opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Each year, award-winning journalist, best-selling author and former First Lady of California, Maria Shriver and her co-captain Lieutenant Governor of California Gavin Newsom, lead a team of bike riders known as Team Maria – to raise funds for, and raise awareness of, Best Buddies. Team Maria participants in the annual Best Buddies Challenge: Hearst Castle in memory of Eunice Kennedy Shriver and Sargent Shriver. LPA has been a lead organizer of Team Maria since 2003 and has helped raise more than $2 million in that time.

SheShares

Launched in March 2012, She Shares is a unique conversation series featuring trailblazing women leaders who have created a lasting impact for women in California and beyond. The program provides an opportunity for the next generation of women leaders to be mentored by accomplished professionals. LPA is a founding sponsor of She Shares and provides staffing and support for its media and events.

Harvey Milk Foundation

Public Policy Institute of California

The Public Policy Institute of California is a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank dedicated to informing and improving public policy in California through independent, objective, nonpartisan research on major economic, social, and political issues. LPA provides ongoing support to help PPIC fulfill its mission and goals.

Cien Amigos

Cien Amigos is a civic action organization based in Northern California that encourages the mutual prosperity of both Mexico and California. LPA is dedicated to supporting Cien Amigo in its efforts to foster and improve the dynamic relationship between California and Mexico.

John Burton Foundation

California Musical Theatre

The California Musical Theater is Northern California’s premiere producer and presenter of musical theatre and Sacramento’s oldest professional performing arts organization, entertaining over 250,000 patrons every year. LPA is proud to support the state’s largest non-profit musical theatre.

Saint John's Program for Real Change

Saint John’s works to end the cycle of homelessness, poverty, and abuse by providing women with mental health services, housing, transportation, children’s programs, career education, and on-the-job training so they become empowered to embark on a
path towards independence and success. Donna Lucas was named Saint John’s 2015 Mother of the Year for her and the firm’s continued support of the organization.

Crocker Art Museum

Established in 1885, the Crocker Art Museum is the first public art museum founded in the Western United States and now is one of the leading art museums in California. LPA is dedicated to supporting Sacramento’s primary regional resource for the study and appreciation of fine art.

Verge Center for the Arts

Since 2009, the Verge Center for the Arts has worked to expose the Sacramento region to internationally recognized contemporary art. LPA is thrilled to support the Verge Center for the Arts in its mission to provide vital resources to local career and emerging artists.

Public Policy Institute of California

Equality California

As California’s premier statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, Equality California is focused on creating a fair and just society. LPA supports Equality California in its mission of achieving and maintaining full and lasting equality, acceptance and social justice for all people in diverse communities in California and beyond.

Harvey Milk Foundation

The Harvey Milk Foundation is a global non-profit that promotes Harvey Milk’s legacy through human rights education and outreach. Milk was the first openly LGBT elected official to a major office in the United States and was assassinated in 1978. LPA has been a proud supporter of the foundation’s mission since its inception in 2010.

John Burton Foundation for Children Without Homes

The John Burton Foundation for Children Without Homes is a non-profit organization working to improve the quality of life for California's foster, former foster, and homeless children. LPA is a sponsor of the foundation’s annual book fundraiser, an event that helps ease the growing costs of college for foster youth by providing them with money for textbooks.
