Nancy Heffernan’s background in journalism and two decades of working with an international PR firm managing global, national, statewide and local communications programs for delivering effective results are ideal skills for her role as senior strategy consultant at Lucas Public Affairs.

Nancy’s broad range of experience includes serving as a spokesperson on behalf of clients and representing them in a number of venues, from community forums and public meetings to media interviews.

Nancy provides research and planning, stakeholder outreach, meeting facilitation and written communication. She also recruits allies and prepares speeches and presentations. She conducts hands-on training for clients who need assistance in presenting before a group or maneuvering the media jungle to effectively get their message across.

Nancy has worked on a wide range of issues, including environmental contamination and water, land use, civil liability reform, aerospace, energy and technology, among others. She has provided crisis communications, created product launch campaigns, run large seminars and worked on various political and legislative campaigns. Nancy is versed in the various media platforms of the day and leverages them judiciously.

Prior to launching her own consultancy, Nancy served as co-managing director and senior counselor to the Sacramento office of APCO Worldwide. Earlier, she was a partner and director of public relations for a Sacramento-based political consulting and public affairs firm and also worked as a junior associate with a San Francisco-based firm. During her years as a journalist, Nancy was a senior editor of the California Journal, covering California government and politics, and was a news intern and reporter in the Capitol bureaus of the Los Angeles Times, Riverside Press-Enterprise and Gannet News Service/USA Today. Her ability to “think like a reporter,” coupled with her solid relationships with members of the news media, make her an asset on highly strategic projects.

An avid SF Giants fan, Nancy grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area before studying journalism and government at California State University, Sacramento. She remained in Sacramento to work and raise her three daughters.
