Sacramento, CA (August 19, 2015) – Lucas Public Affairs, a leading California public affairs firm known for its work on complex public policy issues, today announced it has a new office, new website and new staff members, all part of the firm’s continued commitment to serving clients at the crossroads of policy, politics and communications.
“In the last year we have made significant investments in our company infrastructure to ensure our team of strategy, policy and communications experts can continue to best serve those navigating the complex, and often controversial, policy issues facing California today and into the future,” said Donna Lucas, president and CEO of Lucas Public Affairs. “Our new office and our refreshed webpage reflect that growth and commitment.”
Long housed in the Esquire Tower near the state Capitol, LPA relocated to a larger, brighter office on the 10th floor to have more meeting space, as well as room for its growing staff and visiting clients. Now at 1215 K Street, Suite 1010, the office is also home to works by locally and nationally recognized artists.
Lucas Public Affairs’ new site, www.LucasPublicAffairs.com, provides information on the strategic communications services that LPA provides to leading foundations, nonprofit organizations, associations, businesses and government entities that are working on important policy issues, including health care, education, civic engagement, energy, transportation, insurance, biotechnology, tourism, business and finance.
“Our new website is mobile friendly, easily accessible, and most of all, it reflects who we are today,” Lucas said. “I’m particularly pleased that the new site showcases some of the nonprofit and philanthropic organizations that our team supports, including SheShares, Best Buddies International, the Public Policy Institute of California, Cien Amigos, and the Harvey Milk Foundation, among others.”
Staff Hires and Promotions
LPA’s recent staff expansion is a testament to the firm’s strong internship program – all three of the additions are young professionals who began their public affairs careers as LPA interns. The staff announcements include the promotion of Katie Hanzlik to Account Executive and the hiring of Michelle Baker and Brooke Sperbeck as Account Coordinators. They join the LPA team of public affairs practitioners from both sides of the aisle, with experience in local, state and federal government, nonprofit and foundation work, campaign management, and the private sector.
Katie Hanzlik Promoted to Account Executive
Katie’s experience working in and around the California State Legislature makes her a valuable resource for clients as they navigate the Capitol community. Katie’s strong writing and social media skills also help reach key audiences on important policy issues, particularly in the fields of health care, biotechnology, and civic engagement.
Prior to joining Lucas Public Affairs, Katie spent several years providing legislative support at a leading lobbying firm. Katie began her career as an intern in the district office of then-Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, where she utilized legislative resources to provide constituents and the public with accurate and up-to-date information about the Senator’s policies and priorities.
Katie is an active member of the Sacramento County Young Democrats, where she serves as Communications Director and oversees the club’s social media and other online platforms. Katie graduated from University of California, Santa Barbara with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Global Studies and French.
Michelle Baker Hired as Account Coordinator
Michelle supports clients with research, writing and social media projects in the areas of health care and education. Prior to joining Lucas Public Affairs, Michelle had several other internships at public affairs firms and in the Assembly Speaker’s Press Office where she handled research, tracking news and social media, and media inquiries.
Michelle graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor of Journalism degree in Advertising and Public Relations. There, she served as Public Relations Officer, Website Coordinator and Alumnae Liaison for her sorority, Phi Mu. She is a member of Metro EDGE and Junior League of Sacramento.
Brooke Sperbeck Hired as Account Coordinator
Brooke provides account support on various research, writing, and social media projects for clients in a number of industries, including renewable energy, and travel and tourism. She has been with Lucas Public Affairs since December 2014, and previously interned with the firm in the summer of 2013.
Prior to joining LPA, Brooke was an intern at a digital marketing agency where she assisted with public relations and social media campaigns for start-ups and consumer goods companies. Brooke also interned in both Sacramento and New York in the government relations and corporate communications offices of Pfizer, Inc.
A recent graduate of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Brooke has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and a minor in Political Science. During college, she wrote for her school newspaper and was a marketing intern for the women’s basketball team. Brooke is a member of Metro EDGE.
