Lucas Public Affairs Expands Staff and Grows Talent

Sacramento, CA – Lucas Public Affairs today announced it is expanding its staff and promoting internal talent to continue building its expertise and capacity as one of California’s leading strategic communications and political public affairs firms.

Alex Barrios, who most recently served as a communications director in the State Senate, joins Lucas Public Affairs as a Senior Account Manager. Promotions within the firm include Justin Knighten to Vice President, and Andy Nevis and Lyndsey Williams both to Account Executives.

Alex Barrios Hired as Senior Account Manager

Barrios comes to Lucas Public Affairs with more than 11 years of experience in communications and public affairs at all levels of government. Prior to joining the firm, he managed strategic communications for various elected officials in California including members of Congress, constitutional officers, and state legislators. Most recently, Barrios was the Communications Director to former State Senator Norma Torres, where he also worked on legislation of high priority to the Latino caucus, before Torres was elected to Congress. Barrios also ran his own consulting practice for several years where he served as a strategic consultant and advisor for a number of corporations, public agencies and political campaigns. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Public and Political Communication and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Communication from California State University, Sacramento. Full bio

Justin Knighten Promoted to Vice President

Knighten has strong and broad-based public affairs experience with expertise in media relations and social media strategy, and a gift for framing issues and driving coverage in these fast-pace arenas. Knighten manages public affairs and communications campaigns for a variety of the firm’s clients on issues ranging from renewable energy, Internet and technology, health care, travel and tourism, education and biotechnology. Justin also supports the Harvey Milk Foundation as its director of media and public affairs. Prior to joining Lucas Public Affairs, he worked in the Legislative Unit at the California Environmental Protection Agency – Office of Secretary Linda Adams. Knighten also has worked in Talk Radio News Service’s Washington, D.C. bureau and in the United States Coast Guard public affairs unit in Seattle, WA. Andy Nevis Promoted to Account Executive

Nevis joined Lucas Public Affairs in April 2013 as an intern and was quickly promoted to Account Coordinator and now Account Executive. Prior to joining the firm, Nevis served as Political Director for a state Assembly campaign, where he also managed the web presence and social media for the Republican candidate. He also has served as Student Director for the Cal-in-Sacramento Fellowship program, where he recruited fellow students for summer internships in state politics and provided advice and support during their time in Sacramento. Lyndsey Williams Promoted to Account Executive

Williams joined Lucas Public Affairs in April 2013 as the Executive Assistant and quickly expanded her role to Account Coordinator and now Account Executive. Prior to joining the firm, she worked at Cosumnes River College and University of California, Davis providing administrative, analytical and special project support for several education-related programs.  Williams received her Master’s in Public Policy and Administration degree from California State University, Sacramento in 2014 and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of California, Santa Cruz.
